The '''Aviat Husky''' is a two-seat, high-wing utility airplane with seats one behind the other, built by Aviat Aircraft of Afton, Wyoming. It is the only all-new light airplane designed and put into series production in the United States in the mid-to-late 1980s.<ref name="wp"/> In the U.S. there are 962 with a valid registration.<ref name="faa"/>

== History ==
Christen Industries began the design in 1985, and it was one of the few airplanes in its class designed with CAD software. The prototype flew in 1986 and was certified the next year. With more than 650 sold by 2008, it was one of the best-selling light airplanes of the period.<ref name="wp"/>

== Design ==
The Husky has a strut-braced high wing chosen for all-around visibility, tandem seats with dual controls, a steel-tube frame covered in Dacron, and metal wing leading edges. A 180 hp Lycoming O-360, strong for its weight, turns a constant-speed propeller.<ref name="wp"/>

== In service ==
Huskies fly observation, fisheries patrol, pipeline inspection, glider towing and border patrol. Users include the U.S. Departments of the Interior and Agriculture, and the Kenya Wildlife Service flies seven to patrol elephant herds against ivory poaching.<ref name="wp"/>

The first Husky A-1 was certified on May 1, 1987; later versions include the A-1A, A-1B and A-1C, with up to 200 hp.<ref name="wp"/>

== Registered in the United States ==
The FAA register lists '''962''' of these airplanes with a valid U.S. registration. Here they are by the model name the FAA uses.<ref name="faa"/>
