The '''Cessna Citation Excel''', Model 560XL, is a midsize business jet in the Citation family. Cessna announced it in October 1994; it first flew on February 29, 1996, was certified in April 1998, and more than 1,000 have been delivered.<ref name="wp"/> In the U.S. there are 739 with a valid registration.<ref name="faa"/>

It has a range of 2,100 nmi, a maximum takeoff weight of 20,200 lb and two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545 engines, with the cross-shaped tail and straight supercritical wing of the [[Cessna Citation V|Citation V]] and a slightly shortened Citation X stand-up cabin.<ref name="wp"/>

== History ==
After the success of its high-end Citation VII, Cessna saw a market for a jet with the Citation X's features aimed at buyers who would otherwise choose twin turboprops. By the time the FAA certified it in April 1998, Cessna had more than 200 orders; the 1999 price was US$8.7 million.<ref name="wp"/>

Cessna took the Citation X cabin, shortened it by about 2 feet, and joined it to a straight wing based on the Citation S/II's and the Citation V's tail. It has the roomiest cabin in its class and seats up to 10 passengers (usually six to eight) with two pilots.<ref name="wp"/>

The 2004 XLS brought upgraded engines and a glass cockpit, the 2008 XLS+ new engines and a new nose, and the Citation Ascend, in service in 2025, a new interior and avionics, a flat floor and bigger windows.<ref name="wp"/>
