The Yakovlev Yak-12 is a Soviet light high-wing utility airplane that can take off and land in very short distances. It was used by the Soviet air force, Soviet civil aviation and many other countries from 1947.[1] Without counting Chinese production, 4,992 were built. In the U.S. there are 2 with a valid registration.[1][2]

History

Alexander Yakovlev's team designed the Yak-12 for a 1944 Soviet air force requirement for a liaison and utility airplane to replace the outdated Po-2 biplane.[1] It was also meant for civil flying, succeeding Yakovlev's AIR-6 of 1934.[1] It first flew in 1946 and entered service in 1947.[1] Poland developed it into the PZL-101 Gawron.[1] NATO called it "Creek".[1]

Registered in the United States

The FAA register lists 2 of these airplanes with a valid U.S. registration. Here they are by the model name the FAA uses.[2]
