The '''Cessna 206 Stationair''' belongs to a family of single-engine, fixed-gear airplanes, the Cessna 205, 206 and 207, sold mainly as the Stationair and at times as the Super Skywagon, Skywagon and Super Skylane. It was developed from the retractable-gear [[Cessna 210 Centurion]], and Cessna calls the 206 "the sport-utility vehicle of the air".<ref name="wp"/> In the U.S. there are 2,553 Cessna 206s with a valid registration.<ref name="faa"/>

A strong engine, rugged build and big cabin make it a popular bush plane, and it is also used for aerial photography, skydiving and other utility work. It can fly on floats, amphibious floats or skis, or be fitted out as a comfortable personal airplane. From 1962 to 2006 Cessna built 8,509 airplanes in the 205, 206 and 207 versions, and it remains in production.<ref name="wp"/>

== History ==
The family began with the six-seat Cessna 205, introduced late in 1962 as a 1963 model. It was essentially a 210 with fixed landing gear and different doors, officially the "Model 210-5", and kept the early 210's cowling bulge where the 210 stowed its nosewheel. It had a 260 hp Continental IO-470-S and was built for only two model years, 1963 and 1964, before the 206 replaced it.<ref name="wp"/>

Utility U206 and passenger P206 versions followed, and today's turbocharged T206H is the most common Stationair on the U.S. register.<ref name="wp"/><ref name="faa"/>
