The Gulfstream V (Model GV, "G-five") is a large, long-range business jet built by Gulfstream Aerospace and derived from the Gulfstream IV. It reaches Mach 0.885, flies as high as 51,000 ft and as far as 6,500 nmi, and typically carries four crew and 14 passengers. It first flew on November 28, 1995, and entered service in June 1997; the U.S. military flies it as the C-37A. In 2003 the improved Gulfstream G550 (Model GV-SP) replaced it.[1] In the U.S. there are 570 GV and G550 jets with a valid registration, 405 of them G550s.[2]
History
Gulfstream developed the GV in the early 1990s as its answer to the Bombardier Global Express. Certified on April 11, 1997, it was Gulfstream's first ultra-long-range business jet, and 193 GVs were built.[1]
Compared with the GIV it has more powerful BMW-Rolls-Royce BR710 engines with digital engine controls, a ceiling raised from 45,000 to 51,000 ft, thrust reversers, composite control surfaces, a 30 percent bigger horizontal tail, a wingspan grown from 74.6 to 93.5 ft, and a longer fuselage.[1]
Used values
By 2018, GVs built in 1997 to 1999 were trading at $8.8 to $10.25 million, and by 2019 a GV was worth around $10 million, from under $6 million for high-time airplanes up to $13 million.[1]
Registered in the United States
The FAA register lists 570 of these airplanes with a valid U.S. registration. Here they are by the model name the FAA uses.[2]
