The Air Tractor AT-802 is an agricultural airplane built by Air Tractor that can also be fitted out for firefighting or as an armed military airplane. It first flew in October 1990. A chemical hopper sits between the engine firewall and the cockpit, and in the U.S. it counts as a Type III SEAT, a single-engine air tanker.[1] In the U.S. there are 648 with a valid registration, 554 of them the single-seat AT-802A.[2]
Fire Boss
The standard AT-802 sits on a tailwheel, but many have been converted to the Fire Boss firefighting version on Wipaire 10000 amphibious floats, so they can land on a runway or on water and scoop water from a lake or river to drop on a fire, in addition to the 820-gallon tank in the fuselage.[1]
Versions
- AT-802: two seats, one behind the other.[1]
- AT-802A: single seat.[1]
- AT-802F / AT-802AF: firefighting versions.[1]
- AT-802U: an armored two-seat military version; in August 2022 the U.S. Special Operations Command chose it, as the L3Harris OA-1K Skyraider II, for its Armed Overwatch program.[1]
