The Van's RV-14 is a two-seat aerobatic kit airplane designed by Richard VanGrunsven and built as a kit by Van's Aircraft. It was introduced at AirVenture in July 2012, and as of November 2022, 207 had been completed and flown.[1] In the U.S. there are 400 registered, counted by model name because homebuilts are registered under their builders' names; registrations can include airplanes still being built.[2]
Design
Derived from the four-seat RV-10, it is an aerobatic two-seater designed to fit large pilots and carry more baggage. The goals included better visibility, a wider cabin, a low landing speed from bigger flaps, good climb and glide, landing gear that meets certification standards and room for the 210 hp Lycoming IO-390.[1]
It is a low-wing aluminum airplane with side-by-side seats under a bubble canopy and fixed tricycle gear (the RV-14A; the RV-14 has a tailwheel), and the kit was designed to be easier to build than earlier Van's kits.[1]
Registered in the United States
The FAA register lists 400 of these airplanes with a valid U.S. registration. Here they are by the model name the FAA uses.[2]
